What is Suboxone, and how can it help me?
Suboxone (generically known as buprenorphine) is an FDA approved treatment for opioid use disorder. By correcting the physiologic chemical changes that occur as a result of prolonged use of opiates, it allows an easy and nearly pain free way to discontinue the use of opiate type drugs. Introduced in the mid 1990's, it was, and still is, a breakthrough treatment for a notoriously difficult to treat problem.
Does Suboxone Treatment Require Counseling?
As a general rule, no. Suboxone is a once a day medication that is almost immediately effective. Once it corrects the underlying physiologic problem, most patients do not require ongoing counseling. Say goodbye to steps, "greater powers," sponsors, etc.
