Sandor J. Woren, D.O. is a 1984 graduate of Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and family medicine and has been in practice for over 37 years.
Dr. Woren developed a special interest in the problem of opioid addiction during his over two-decade career in emergency medicine and primary care. Since the introduction of truly effective medical treatment (Suboxone®) for opioid dependence, he developed a successful practice devoted exclusively to this condition.
Dr. Woren takes a non-judgmental approach, providing individualized medical therapy for the condition of opioid dependence. Using a practical, economical, low-hassle approach, he employs excellent listening and history taking skills, physical examination, and social/occupation rehabilitation skills to customize an effective medical plan to cure people of their opiate addiction.
Dr. Woren can boast of hundreds of patients that he has treated successfully using a traditional medical approach. Although many programs require inpatient therapy, psychological therapy, or mandatory group therapy, Dr. Woren prefers a simple approach based on a traditional physician-patient relationship. Although Dr. Woren has referrals available for patients in need of psychotherapy or who suffer additional psychiatric or physical problems, in reality, few opiate addicted patients actually require these services. Since the introduction of the highly effective medication buprenorphine (Suboxone®, Subutex®), most patients can break their dependencies on opiates literally overnight. Traditional drug treatment assumes that various psychological problems or pathologies are the cause of opiate abuse. Dr. Woren assumes just the opposite; i.e. that persistent use of opiates causes certain physiological brain changes, which in turn mimic psychiatric disorders. Nearly all opiate dependent patients are socially or occupationally impaired to some extent. These patients are thus, often misdiagnosed and mistreated. It is more often the rule, rather the exception that prolonged abstinence to opiates will result in normalized social and occupational function.
As already mentioned, Dr. Woren is an ostepathic physician. Although virtually everyone is familiar with more numerous allopathic (M.D.) physicians, many people ask “what is a D.O.? “ For more information, simply click on the hyperlink. Suffice it to say, that osteopathic physicians undergo the same rigorous training and licensing procedures as their counterpart M.D.s. They practice all branches of medicine and surgery, and are fully licensed physicians in all 50 states and many foreign countries. In addition, they are trained from the start as holistic physicians, and are trained to consider the entire patient, including his or her social, domestic, and occupational situation, in addition to the main disease process, to achieve the optimum result.
